Terms of Service
Play Sports Leagues Ltd, trading as Play 5-a-side (“Play 5-a-side”, “we”, “us”) provides its service on the following Terms & Conditions (“T&Cs”). When a team, player or group joins Play 5-a-side through our online system (or participates in a match we organise), the player (and each member of a team or group) forms a contract with Play 5-a-side and commits to the duration of at least one season (10–14 weeks).
YOU SHOULD REVIEW THESE TERMS CAREFULLY, ESPECIALLY CLAUSES 1 AND 2, WHICH CONTAIN IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS ON OUR LIABILITY. BY REGISTERING OR PARTICIPATING, YOU ACCEPT THESE TERMS IN FULL.
These Terms do not affect your statutory rights.
1. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
YOUR ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THIS CLAUSE, WHICH LIMITS OUR LIABILITY.
1.1 Play 5-a-side will provide its services with reasonable care and skill.
1.2 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
- any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
1.3 Subject to clause 1.2, Play 5-a-side shall not be liable for:
- any loss of profit;
- any loss of business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings;
- any indirect or consequential loss; or
- any loss arising from circumstances outside our reasonable control.
- Subject to clause 1.2, Play 5-a-side’s total liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be limited to the total fees paid by you (or your team) for the relevant season.
- Participation in 5-a-side involves inherent risks of injury. By taking part, you acknowledge and accept those risks.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, each participant agrees to release and hold harmless Play 5-a-side, its officers, employees, agents, sponsors and venue providers from liability for any loss or damage arising from participation, except where caused by our negligence.
- Participants shall indemnify Play 5-a-side for any losses, costs or liabilities incurred as a result of their breach of these Terms or their negligent, reckless or unlawful conduct. 8 If any provision of this clause is found invalid, the remainder shall remain in force.
2. RISKS OF PERSONAL INJURY
2.1 5-a-side is physically demanding and involves inherent risks. By participating, you accept those risks.
2.2 Rules:
2.2.1 You must act responsibly at all times.
2.2.2 You must not participate if under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs.
2.2.3 You must follow all safety instructions.
2.2.4 You must seek guidance if unsure.
2.3 We do not assess medical fitness. You should seek medical advice if unsure.
2.4 Participation is at your own risk, unless caused by our negligence.
3. TEAMS
3.1 The team captain (“Captain”) is responsible for all participants and payments.
3.2 Play 5-a-side may refuse entry or exclude participants without giving a reason.
3.3 Teams may only leave at the end of a season. Leaving early results in liability for remaining fees.
3.4 Teams will automatically be registered for the next season unless they opt out at least 2 weeks before the end of the current season.
3.5 If a team fails to opt out, charges will continue until a replacement team is found.
3.6 Individuals Team
Where Play 5-a-side forms a team, clauses 3.1–3.5 do not apply during the first season. After the opt-out deadline, full Terms apply.
4. CAPTAINS
4.1 Captains must ensure compliance with rules and payments.
4.2 All participants must be 18+. Captains must verify this.
4.3 Captains are responsible for team payments.
4.4 Play 5-a-side may recover unpaid fees from any team member.
4.5 Captains must ensure all players are registered and aware of these Terms.
5. FEES / ABSENCES / MATCH TIMES
5.1 Match times and match fees are set per league and may change. Teams must check updates regularly.
5.2 Payments must be made through the online system. Cash, BACS and cheques are not accepted.
5.3 Unpaid fixtures result in a 10–0 forfeit and full fees payable.
5.4 Team members are jointly and severally liable for fees.
5.5 Unpaid fees may be referred to a debt collection agency.
5.6 Teams are liable for collection costs and interest.

6. FORFEITS / NO SHOWS
6.1 If a team is unable to attend a fixture, a 10–0 win will be awarded to the opposition. As all teams pay for the season in advance, the forfeiting team’s match fee will not be refunded or credited.
If Play 5-a-side is not informed of the forfeit before 5pm on the day of the fixture, or the team fails to notify us prior to the fixture time, this will be treated as a late forfeit and an additional match fee (equivalent to one game fee) will be added to the team’s account.
6.2 Two forfeits may result in removal from the league.
6.3 No-shows without notice may result in removal and full season fees still payable.
7. ATTENDEE CONDUCT
7.1 Individuals Teams are exempt from clauses 6.2 and 6.3 during their first season.
7.2 All participants must behave respectfully. Unsporting behaviour may result in warnings, suspension, or expulsion.
7.3 Complaints should be reported with full details.
8. DISCIPLINE
8.1 Umpire decisions are final.
8.2 Play 5-a-side may take disciplinary action, including bans or expulsion.
9. HEALTH & SAFETY
9.1 Rules:
9.1.1 No item of jewellery may be worn, except for a wedding ring, medical alert bracelet, or religious item, all of which must be securely taped 9.1.2 No dangerous adornments
9.1.3 Suitable clothing and footwear required
9.1.4 All players must ensure their nails are short and smooth before taking to the court. This is at the discretion of the umpire
9.2 Participants accept full responsibility for injuries.
9.3 Play 5-a-side is not responsible for personal property loss.
9.4 Captains must assess safety conditions and report concerns.
9.5 Participants who are pregnant may take part up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, provided they do so at their own risk. After 12 weeks, participation is not permitted.
9.6 Smoking, alcohol and anti-social behaviour are prohibited.
9.7 Breaches may result in removal.
10. GENERAL
10.1 Images and videos may be used for marketing unless you opt out.
10.2 By registering as an individual, you consent to limited contact details being shared for team formation purposes.
10.3 Data Protection
Play 5-a-side processes personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
We use personal data to:
- administer leagues and fixtures
- manage payments
- communicate with participants
- organise teams
- ensure safety and compliance We may share data with:
- other players (team organisation)
- venues and officials
- payment providers
- authorities where required

10.4 Play 5-a-side may subcontract its obligations.
10.5 Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays outside our control. If this continues beyond 6 weeks, either party may terminate.
10.6 These Terms form the entire agreement.
10.7 No reliance on statements outside these Terms.
10.8 No claims for misrepresentation.
10.9 Rights are cumulative.
10.10 No waiver through delay.
10.11 Governed by the law of England and Wales.
10.12 Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
